Amirali Salmasi, MD, MSCR, is a urologic surgeon with expertise in management of genitourinary cancers in men and women, including bladder, prostate, kidney, ureteral, testicular, adrenal, and penile cancers. He provides a personalized multidisciplinary approach to deliver the best treatment option (active surveillance, focal therapy, surgery, radiation, systemic treatments, or clinical trials) for his patients. He performs advanced minimally invasive and complex open surgeries, such as robotic assisted laparoscopic cystectomy, nerve-sparing prostatectomy, retro-peritoneal lymph node dissection, adrenalectomy, and partial nephrectomy. Dr. Salmasi is also interested in translational research and clinical trials in urologic oncology, and his hope is to bridge the gap between the bench and clinical research. His commitment to and persistence in research is evident by numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals.

He received his medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Then he accepted a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins as a first step towards a career in academic medicine and research. After his research fellowship, he completed a six-year urology residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, followed by a three-year Society of Urology Oncology accredited urologic oncology fellowship at University of California, Los Angeles. During fellowship, he refined his understanding of multidisciplinary management of genitourinary malignancies, and perfected his surgical skills in open and robotic surgeries. To further his academic passions, he also completed a Master’s degree at UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute, which is designed to provide advanced training to fellows in clinical and translational research with a focus in clinical trials.

In his spare time, Dr. Salmasi enjoys a friendly game of tennis, and frequently rock climbs or relaxes with yoga. He also loves cooking or dining out with his wife, and walking around the neighborhood with their rambunctious puppy.
