Dr. Hathorn is originally from Texas where he completed both his undergraduate and medical school training. As an undergraduate he attended Texas A+M Universtiy and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry. He then attended medical school at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. There he graduated with honors and won the school's most coveted award - he was voted by his classmates as the student that best personifies the qualities of a good physician.
Dr. Hathorn left Texas for his specialty training. He attended UCLA where he received both his general surgery and urologic training. He was Chief Resident in Urology at UCLA in 1996. While there he was active in oncology research and published and presented numerous scientific papers.
Dr. Hathorn is a Board Certified urologist and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is part of many distinguished urologic and medical groups both locally and nationwide and has served as the Chief of Urology at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. In addition, he has been named as "Top Doctor" by San Diego Magazine 3 of the last 4 years. His interests and expertise in urology include incontinence therapy, urologic oncology, infertility, stone disease and diseases of the prostate including BPH.
