Sepi Mahooti, MD, FCAP, FASCP

Dr. Mahooti serves as Vice President and Medical Director of Laboratory Operations at Genesis Healthcare Partners, and is board certified in anatomic, clinical, and cytopathology.

Dr. Mahooti’s career has spanned both clinical practice and research, pursuing better understanding of disease that bridges the “bench and the bedside” for continual improvement of patient outcomes.

Prior to his current role at Genesis, Dr. Mahooti was a faculty member at the University of California San Diego for 12 years, achieving the rank of full professor in the health sciences series. While at UCSD, he was the Director of Cytology and Fine Needle Aspiration Service at the Department of Veterans Affairs in La Jolla and provided clinical care for veterans in the areas of cytopathology and surgical pathology.

At UCSD, Dr. Mahooti was principle investigator on numerous research projects, served on the curriculum committee of the UCSD School of Medicine for three years, was nominated into the UCSD Academy of Clinical Scholars as a voting member, and won the Anatomic Pathology Teacher of the year in 2013.

Dr. Mahooti completed his cytopathology fellowship at Yale University, and trained in anatomic and clinical pathology at The Ohio State University. While at Yale, he participated in research that was awarded the Papanicolaou Society for Cytopathology Research Award in 2009. At The Ohio State University, he was an Associate Research Scientist in the Laboratory of Tumor Invasion, Metastases, and High Throughput Tissue Profiling.
